Chef Hygiene

Albania: for restaurants and takeaways

Ready for the food inspection. Every day.

In Albania the app follows the Law on Food (Ligji nr. 9863/2008 "Për ushqimin", amended in 2022). The National Food Authority (AKU) inspects, and every food business must run a food safety system based on HACCP.

Your inspection

The National Food Authority (Autoriteti Kombëtar i Ushqimit, AKU) inspects food businesses.

After a visit the inspector writes a report and tells you what to put right and by when. The inspector can fine the business (for example 300,000 lekë for a hygiene breach), take unsafe food off the market and block the activity until the fault is put right.

Hygiene rating

Albania has no public hygiene rating, sticker or score, and nothing has to be displayed. Chef Hygiene shows no rating card for Albania.

“Law” is a binding rule. “Official guidance” is not law, but inspectors expect it. “Chef Hygiene default” is a value the app checks against where no rule gives a number.
