Jersey: food inspections

Who inspects your kitchen, how an inspection works and whether there is a public hygiene rating.

Checked

Jersey is not the UK: the app follows the Food (Jersey) Law 2023, Environmental Health inspects, and the result is an Eat Safe rating of 0, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars.

Inspection body
Environmental Health, Government of Jersey

Environmental Health (Government of Jersey) inspects food businesses. How often depends on the risk of the business.

After a visit the officer tells you what to put right and by when. Serious problems can lead to a notice, a stop to part or all of the business, or court. The research did not confirm the fine amounts, so Chef Hygiene names none.

Hygiene rating

Eat Safe gives 0, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars (there is no 1 star). The Food Safety (Eat Safe Rating) (Jersey) Order 2017 requires the sticker at customer entrances. Whether this changes under the Food (Jersey) Law 2023 is not yet confirmed: ask Environmental Health.

Jersey: the Chef Hygiene app

The app loads these rules for your kitchen, checks your records against them and keeps proof for the inspector.
