Isle of Man: food inspections
Who inspects your kitchen, how an inspection works and whether there is a public hygiene rating.
Checked
The Isle of Man is not the UK: the app follows the EU hygiene rules the island kept on, as DEFA applies them. DEFA's Environmental Health Unit inspects. A new 0-to-5 rating starts with inspections from early 2027.

DEFA's Environmental Health Unit inspects food businesses. How often depends on the risk of the business.
After a visit the officer tells you what to put right and by when. Serious problems can lead to a notice, a stop to part or all of the business, or court. The research did not confirm the fine amounts, so Chef Hygiene names none.
Hygiene rating
DEFA launched a new food hygiene rating scheme in July 2026: 0 to 5, with inspections from early 2027 and the ratings published online. Display is voluntary. Until then there is no public rating. The research found the scheme in the news, not yet in a law on gov.im.
